I know this Dish Pick isn’t the lasagna or pizza you might find me normally writing about at Stadium Pizza & Italian Grill, but you are going to love this cool, refreshing summer salad just the same!
You might think this salad is similar to Stadium’s Mediterranean Salad but it is not at all. The flavors are very different. This salad has a base ingredient of mixed greens accompanied by aged blue cheese, broken walnuts, dried cranberries and strawberry vinaigrette. This salad priced at $6.99, but just as with the Mediterranean Salad you can order it with grilled chicken, salmon or seared Ahi Tuna priced $8.49.
The Cranberry Walnut Salad ingredients just like the Mediterranean Salad just work well together with a deliberate portioning of ingredients. Both of these salads were well thought and planned out.
A few things stand out for me in this salad. The strong flavor of the bleu cheese was all that bleu cheese lovers crave. Plentiful, but not too overpowering, the bleu cheese really hit the spot for me. The slight bitterness of the walnuts with their high tannin levels paired with the tartness of the cranberries and sweetness of the strawberry vinaigrette also stood out.
I wasn’t sure about the dressing when Juan suggested it, but once again, he was spot on in his recommendation. The dressing wasn’t nearly as sweet as I thought it was going to be. I have a real dislike for cheap store bought or food distributor dressings that taste like a piece of candy ruining a well orchestrated salad. It should be a crime punishable by requiring the restaurant owner to eat school cafeteria salads!
The denseness of the mixed greens used in this salad without the use of iceberg works well with the lightness of the seared, sesame crusted Ahi Tuna. The tuna was seared to perfection and it looked to be about 4 ounces.
This salad is an enigma of sorts with a variety of the flavors going on, but it worked!
