Food Review: Louisiana Crab Cake Sandwich, Cherry Pocket

Topped with Creole Cream Mustard Sauce!

There is a restaurant with a Lake Wales address, but is just on the other side of Dundee in the middle of an orange grove on Lake Pierce called Cherry Pocket Steak & Seafood Shak. Everyone in East Polk seems to know about it, but fewer in West Polk. Well, I am here to change that, and you West Polk Countians listen up because this is a place that needs to be on your short list. Not just for the food, but for an atmosphere that is uniquely its own. If you are looking for fancy; look again. This restaurant you might say has charm. The charm of an old fishing camp where buildings have been strung together creating what is now a restaurant that East Polk Countians tell me during season has a two hour wait or more for a table!

Cherry Pockets has been around since the 1940’s as a fish camp and bar where travelers would ride up on their horses to take a load off. Over the years there have been multiple owners and for the last twenty years has been owned by Rick and Elsie Eten.

I am running out of room for this Dish Pick, so let me get to it. You gotta try the Louisiana Crab Cake Sandwich priced at $9.49. And it’s worth every penny. This is one of the chef’s specials on the menu. The fresh crab cake sandwich is deep fried, and topped with Creole cream mustard sauce and garnished with tomato and green leafy lettuce. I have been sworn to secrecy on the ingredients or I would give it to you, but for you lovers of crab cakes this is a must try.

It is a simple sandwich that tastes, oh, so good!
