Food Review: Prime Rib – Jay Bee’s in Lake Wales

Well Worth the Drive!

I soon learned what the locals have known for over 25 years is that Jay Bee’s restaurant can cook it up with the best of them.

Jay Bee’s restaurant is not hard to find, but is a bit of a hike from the west side of the county 10 miles east of Highway 27 on Highway 60 near Walk In Water Road in Lake Wales. Yes, I did say east of Lake Wales, but after you read what I have to say you will make the drive.

The Friday, Saturday night Prime Rib special at Jay Bee’s is special. And the price makes it really special at $15.99 for the Queen Cut (approx. 12oz.) and $17.99 for the Kind Cut (approx. 16oz.).

I, of course, opted for the Kind Cut. It was a marbled, hand cut, marinated and cracked pepper seasoned ribeye roast that was cooked a perfect rare to medium rare. It was trimmed with just enough fat left on for flavor, and so tender, I actually cut this beast with my butter knife.

It comes with two sides and dinner rolls. I choose a loaded bake potato with real bacon, sour cream, cheddar cheese and fresh chives, and a garden salad with one of Jay Bee’s house-made dressings.

Most of the time I dive into what a dish tastes like so that my readers can get a sense if it  is something they would like, but not for this one. If you love prime rib, you know what I am talking about and what it should taste like, and Jay Bee’s serves up a good one and definitely worth the drive!
